Our Mission Statement
To cultivate and maintain a series of business relationships based initially on helping clients with what “has to be done”, but expanding into a more active role, delivering advice on what ” might be done differently”.
Peter Geary FCA, Director is a chartered accountant who qualified in 1981 and started the firm in 1983, having previously managed a small branch office of a medium-sized firm in Somerset. Whilst there he realised that his “strong point” was interacting with the smaller owner-managed business, being prepared to listen and, at appropriate times, add value with some lateral thinking. Peter lives with his wife in Caersws, Powys, and has a married daughter
Peter says “We pride ourselves on professionalism, but in the small –business sector that does not necessarily mean clockwork efficiency and clever tax-avoidance schemes. Whilst prompt delivery and ingenuity are bound to be important, we stand by our goals of accessibility, trustworthiness, and a friendly, interested approach”.
Ashley Jones FMAAT, Director is a fellow of the association of accounting technicians, having qualified in 1994. He joined the firm in 1999 and now has a wealth of experience dealing with a great variety of owner- managed businesses with scores of different issues . He has a natural lateral-thinking ability and therefore combines compliance work with problem-solving to help clients achieve their goals. He is friendly and accessible; always making time for clients. Ashley lives in Shrewsbury with his wife and 3 daughters. He is a keen squash player and a member of Shropshire squash club-while his knees hold up!
Ashley says “Building lasting relationships is the best way to understand a client’s business and their varying needs. Having a friendly team here helps us to achieve this goal. Sometimes clients raise issues where a bit of thinking outside the box can go a long way”.
Lyn Park works closely with Ashley and his client portfolio. Having been employed in accountancy practices all her working life, she joined Peter Geary and Co in 2005. She has a wealth of experience in compiling accounts (she even has her own highly efficient method of bank analysis, which has long ago been adopted throughout the firm!) and completing vat returns. Lyn also manages the firm’s payroll bureau . She has another invaluable quality-keeping us all cheerful when we’re flagging! Lyn lives with her husband in Abermule.
Lyn says “Taking an interest in clients and their welfare, and sharing a joke with them pays dividends-and helps to make the day go by”.
Denise Lewis MAAT joined the firm in 2009 as Peter’s personal assistant having worked for herself and other accountancy practices previously. While at the firm she has qualified with AAT which has enabled her to acquire significant tax knowledge, to add to her accountancy skills which embrace numerous corporate clients. Denise has a prodigious work-rate which leaves Peter struggling to catch up! She lives with her family at Wistanstow, Craven Arms.
Denise says “I have always enjoyed preparing accounts for small businesses as no two clients are the same. A small practice like Peter Geary’s gives you the chance to get to know the clients well”.
Tracy Page has been with the firm from the start! She is our receptionist and office manager, assisting the team and clients with administrative support. She also manages a number of payroll clients. She personifies our image of friendliness, and adds in a strong element of charm, putting clients, having tax bills on their minds, at ease. Tracy lives with her family near Bishops Castle.
Tracy says “Having been with the firm almost from the beginning (which I think says a lot about the firm), I have been able to get to know many of the clients, enjoying and realising the importance of forming friendly relationships with them. I am also very fortunate to work with such a lovely group of people. I have seen many changes over the years and enjoy the challenge of an ever evolving work environment”.
Rowan Brunton CFAB has been with the firm for a number of years on a part-time basis and in 2017 made the decision to focus on accountancy as a career. He has recently obtained his certificate of finance accounting and business qualification, on his way to membership of ICAEW. He brings to the firm strong numeracy skills, an enquiring mind, and an outgoing personality. The youngest member of the team, he is perhaps the most comfortable with the rapid onset of digitalisation. Rowan is steadily building a client portfolio.
Rowan says “as the youngest member of the team I believe I can contribute energy and enthusiasm towards delivering quality client service, and am well placed to embrace the challenging digitalisatiion process”.
